Exploring Final's $8,500 Diamond Headphones: A New Era in Audiophile Gear

Final has made a bold statement in the audiophile world with the introduction of the DX10000 CL headphones. These closed-back flagship models feature a 40mm True Diamond diaphragm setting a new standard in premium audio equipment. The standard model is priced at $8,499 while the Collector’s Edition limited to 150 units, is available for $8,999.

The DX10000 CL is designed to address the challenges of closed-back headphones, such as resonance and tonal coloration. Final’s innovative design aims to deliver an immersive listening experience while maintaining the clarity and natural tone expected from high-end audio equipment.

The Technology Behind the Diamond Diaphragm

The heart of the DX10000 CL is its True Diamond diaphragm which is grown as a crystalline layer via chemical vapor deposition. This process ensures that the diaphragm is self-supporting and free from any substrate, providing exceptional rigidity and internal damping. The diamond’s properties help maintain accurate piston motion, reduce distortion, and suppress residual vibrations, resulting in a more faithful reproduction of the original recording.

Final has also redesigned the supporting driver assembly, including a polyurethane surround a lightweight polyimide bobbin-integrated voice coil and a free-floating lead wire structure. These components work together to improve rigidity, drive precision, and maintain stable piston motion, enhancing the

Design and Build Quality

The DX10000 CL features a high-rigidity housing machined from an aluminum-magnesium alloy using advanced 5-axis CNC machining. This precision engineering ensures that the housing is not just a structural component but also part of the acoustic design. The housing is designed to be airtight, reducing vibrations and air leaks that could affect the sound quality.

Inside the housing, unnecessary material is removed to reduce weight, and the resulting cavities are filled with dedicated acoustic damping material. This design helps control unwanted internal reflections, ensuring a cleaner and more accurate sound. The earpads are made from Ultrasuede with controlled air permeability, providing a comfortable fit while maintaining an effective seal.

Collector’s Edition Features

The Collector’s Edition of the DX10000 CL includes several luxurious features, such as gold-colored accents a Japanese paulownia wood presentation box a Tango Chirimen silk pouch and a CNC-machined aluminum stand. These additions enhance the

The standard model comes with silver-colored accents and a protective carrying case, offering a more understated yet elegant design. Both models are built to last, with the housing assembly clamped together using 12 screws, allowing for easy disassembly and servicing. This design ensures that wear components can be replaced, extending the lifespan of the headphones.

Cables and Connectivity

Final includes two silver-coated OFC cables co-developed with Junkosha, a specialist cable manufacturer. These cables are designed to provide high-performance materials and cable engineering, ensuring optimal audio transmission. The DX10000 CL comes with a 4.4mm balanced cable and a 4-pin XLR cable, along with adapters for broad compatibility with desktop headphone amplifiers and high-end audio systems.

The DX10000 CL is designed for listeners who seek a private, immersive, and physically engaging experience combining the isolation and impact of closed-back headphones with the clarity and tonal accuracy expected from a flagship audiophile product. With its innovative technology and luxurious design, the DX10000 CL sets a new benchmark in the world of high-end audio equipment.
