As a tech capital markets reporter, you will be at the forefront of breaking news on how technology companies are raising capital beyond traditional venture capital. This includes exploring public market debtequity and joint ventures. Your reporting will delve into how major banks are reorganizing to better serve tech and AI clients, including the launch of new groups and products.
Your work will involve explaining complex transactions in clear, accessible language, highlighting what the structures mean, who benefits, and why it matters. You will collaborate with editors and reporters across the newsroom on stories involving AI infrastructure, IPOs, private markets, public-company finance, and Wall Street strategy. Additionally, you will appear regularly on TITV, The Information’s daily live video show.
Qualifications: What It Takes to Succeed
To excel in this role, you should have at least 5 years of experience in business, finance, or technology reporting. A proven track record of scoop-driven journalism and source-building on a competitive beat is essential. You should possess a strong understanding of capital markets, investment banking, corporate finance, or technology deals.
Your ability to explain complicated financial structures clearly and accurately is crucial. Comfort with reading offering documents, earnings materials, credit agreements, and other deal-related documents is a must. You should be adept at building sources across Wall Street and the technology industry, including bankers, investors, lawyers, and executives. Strong news judgment and the ability to identify the broader significance of specific deals or products are also key.
Success Metrics: Making an Impact
Success in this role is measured by your ability to publish impactful stories within your first month. By six months, you should be driving conversation on the beat and consistently breaking stories that are closely followed by bankers, investors, tech executives, and competitors. Over time, your stories should become a must-read for understanding how Wall Street is financing the technology industry and how the industry is shaping Wall Street.
This is a hybrid role with office attendance required 3 days a week. The salary range is $120,000 – $200,000 USD annually, plus bonus and benefits. The actual compensation may vary based on factors such as location, work experience, and skill level.
